I think like a good atheist. That is why I have found Christ.

I think like a good atheist. That is why I have found Christ.

I tell my Atheist friends,

“The only reason you are still an atheist is because you are bad at it.”

I am a good atheist.  That’s why I now believe in Jesus.

What is an atheist? Webster defines it as a person who “dis-believes in god(s)”.  That’s pretty generic.  I grew up in an atheist home.  I didn’t realize it for a long time because my parents sent me to Catholic school.  But they admitted later in life. They were die-hard atheists.

They had no moral compass.  You may not know about my childhood – an American Dream turned nightmare.  Details of that story, Liz Here Now, can be found at www.lizherenow.com. Their atheism found no contradiction to the abuse, the racism, and exploitation of their privileged power.  Atheism, at its core, lacks any moral compass for which to rely upon.  More on that later in another blog.

This despicable behavior on the part of my parents is not true of any other atheists I know.  They don’t use their atheist faith in that way.  All of my atheist friends are very intelligent, compassionate, and kind.  They are great people.  That’s why they are my friends.  But they have, frankly, borrowed morality from Christianity.  I like that in them.   But I also recognize they are appropriating non-atheistic thought into their belief system.  Again, more on that later.

What are the principles by which atheists live?

1.     Science Wins.  Atheists universally believe in scientific discovery.  It is concrete.  It is measurable.  It is evidenced by the five human senses or can be proven through math, physics and the other sciences. It involves observable conclusions and provable facts.

2.     Logic Wins.  Atheists rely on logic.  If it doesn’t make sense, it must be either fake or crazy.

3.     Evidence Wins.  Everything must be either proven or provable by tangible, real-world evidence to be considered reality.

Now here is the shocking point.  I follow every one of these principals.  Atheist thinking is a great guide to finding truth.  It is my pursuit of truth, led by these principles that has drawn me to the conclusion that Jesus must be what Christians believe he is – the Son of God.

These principals make me a Christian Atheist.  I believe that following these principals, honestly, and diligently leads to only one place – to Jesus.  Every “good” atheist comes to Christ. The people who remain atheists are just bad at it.  Atheists only stay Atheists because they poison their atheism with blind faith – often “sciency-sounding” faith, but faith all the same.  And by violating their own principals, they remain atheists.

I think like a good atheist. That is why I have found Christ.
